MOM’s Organic Market, CVS signed for final phase of mixed-use neighborhood
The JBG Companies has started site work on the retail portion of its Upper Rock District. This retail addition is the final phase of the walkable and transit-oriented mixed-use community, which is located off Shady Grove Road at Interstate 270 in Rockville, about a mile from Metro’s Shady Grove Red Line station.
The retail, on 4.5 acres, will be comprised of three single-story buildings with a total of 34,700 square feet of leasable space. The District also includes Gables Upper Rock, a 522-unit apartment community; 77 Upper Rock, a 73,700-square-foot office building; and a central community green space.
CVS Pharmacy will encompass 14,600 square feet and is expected to deliver in mid-2017. A 16,000-square-foot MOM’s Organic Market will open in fall 2017. An additional 4,100 square feet of leasable space is envisioned for a restaurant and service retail.

The Upper Rock District is a 20-acre retrofit of a suburban office park which was master-planned by renowned new-urbanist architect Andres Duany, who is known locally as the architect behind the charrette-inspired vision for the Kentlands in Montgomery County.
“Our customers have told us over the years how much they’d love a MOM’s between our Rockville and Frederick locations,” said MOM’s Founder and CEO, Scott Nash. “We’re thrilled to provide what they’ve been asking for with the opening next fall of our Northern Rockville/Gaithersburg store.”
The new retail buildings will replace JBG’s existing 5 Choke Cherry office building, which is currently undergoing demolition. Construction of the new buildings will follow this fall.
