The Mullan Contracting Company has been awarded a contract to retrofit a former KMart, located within the Laurel Glen Shopping Center in California, Maryland, into a new PetSmart comprising 21,629 square feet of space. The shopping center, which currently includes tenants Weis Markets and Hobby Lobby, is located at the intersection of Old Rolling Road and Three Notch Road (MD Route 235). PetSmart is expected to take occupancy of the new space by the end of the year, opening in the 1st quarter of 2018.
With more than 1500 stores, PetSmart is considered the largest specialty pet retailer in the United States. In addition to carrying a full line of food, toy and grooming products, PetSmart offers grooming, veterinarian and hospital services at many locations. This is the third PetSmart located in southern Maryland.

“Our team initially become involved with this project last year when we supervised the demolition of the former KMart interior, to prepare the space for a new Hobby Lobby,” explained Joseph Rode, President of The Mullan Contracting Company. “Our familiarity with this building and the Laurel Glen Shopping Center will pay dividends as we work to complete the next phase of this project.”
“The opening of the PetSmart will nearly complete the retrofitting of the former KMart space as Hobby Lobby opened in April of this year. Mullan’s work will include the completion of an additional tenant space within the former K Mart,” stated Tony Brown, Vice President of Shanri Holdings Corp., owner of Laurel Glen Shopping Center. Mr. Brown further stated he very much appreciates the professional work of Mullan Contracting and the long standing association.
