Michael Bourn Doesn't Think Football Injury Is A Joke

Michael Bourn wanted to get the jokes out of the way. The affable Orioles outfielder who suffered a broken right ring finger catching a football Feb. 24 in a workout knows fans are getting lots of laughs out of his injury.

"It wasn't football for fun, first off. I was doing it for conditioning. It was just a conditioning drill that you do and the ball just hit me in the wrong spot. I thought it was a jam at first, but I kind of knew," Bourn said, "It hurt kind of bad, more than a jam."

Bourn's space on the Orioles' Opening Day roster wasn't assured. He signed a minor league contract Feb. 20, and has a March 27 opt-out, and he may not even be playing by then. He hadn't yet played when he was hurt.
