Tempers flared midway through the fourth quarter in the "Battle of Charles Street," when Loyola defenseman Foster Huggins hit Johns Hopkins midfielder Daniel Jones with an illegal body check and earned a penalty.
Jones retaliated with a push that set off a scrum in which coaches entered the field to separate players. The sequence underscored the intensity of the game, which featuresd a pair of neighborhood rivals that also happened to be two of the best lacrosse teams in the nation.
Junior midfielder Joel Tinney, who is back on the field after sitting out 2016, provided the game's biggest play, scoring a goal with 1:47 remaining in overtime to give No. 4 Johns Hopkins a 14-13 victory before an announced 5,222 at Homewood Field.
