City College Girls' Basketball Starts Strong Despite Significant Turnover

Few gave the Baltimore City College girls' basketball team much thought when predicting which high school teams in the Baltimore area were going to have big seasons. The Knights were coming off a 17-6 season but graduated six seniors, many of whom were key players, meaning City was likely facing a rebuilding year.

Instead, City has put together an excellent first half of the regular season, jumping out to an 11-3 record while playing one of the more difficult schedules in the area. The team has squared off with Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association 4A undefeated powerhouse Howard and also played against Milford Mill, Western and Urbana, all of which have been to an MPSSAA state championship since 2015.

In its next game Jan. 26, City will play its biggest rival, Poly, which reached the MPSSAA 3A state championship last season.
