The argument about Mike Mussina's Hall of Fame candidacy will live for another year, and perhaps two or three more. Before we move on to this year's Orioles, attention must be paid to the Hall of Fame vote Jan. 18, which was a positive for Mussina.
In his fourth year on the ballot, the right-hander continued gaining support. From 20.3 percent of the vote three years ago, Mussina now has 51.8 percent of the vote. Seventy-five percent of the vote is needed for election to the Hall of Fame.
Mussina received more votes than another prominent starting pitcher on the ballot, righty Curt Schilling, who fell to 45 percent. Much of Schilling's dwindling support is blamed on some unfortunate tweets, including one in which he suggested journalists should be lynched.
