If there was any lingering belief catcher Matt Wieters would return to Birdland in 2017, the conference call with his replacement, Welington Castillo, indicated if Wieters does return in 2017, it'll be in an opposing uniform.
Castillo spoke a bit about the Orioles' winning culture as the reason he selected them rather than any of his other suitors.
"It was my first option, because it is a great team," Castillo said. "I am hearing a lot of good things about [manager] Buck Showalter, and I want to win here. This is a great team, and it's going to be a competitor, and it's going to be competing, and I want to be a part of a championship with the Orioles."
