Daily fantasy players who just started playing DFS contests in the last few years learned a harsh lesson last week. When a highly owned player goes on a mega-tear, if you do not have him in your lineup, you are in deep trouble, no matter how good the rest of your picks perform.
Last week, Pittsburgh running back Le'Veon Bell scored 54.8 fantasy points on DraftKings with 236 rushing yards, three touchdowns and four catches for another 62 yards. That was the fourth-biggest fantasy points total all-time for DraftKings, and the most in nearly three years. Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles holds the record (62.5, Dec. 15, 2013).
Considering Bell was owned in roughly 25 percent of lineups in many popular DFS contests, it's easy to see why players who didn't have him were left out in the cold. Luckily, that doesn't happen often.
