Melo Trimble Proves Staying At Maryland Was Right Choice

Forget Melo Trimble's unstoppable run to the basket against Kansas State Nov. 26. The junior guard's best move was not listening to NBA pushers and returning for his third season in College Park, Md.

Trimble is the rare player who tested the NBA pre-draft camps, decided he wasn't ready after poor performances and withdrew from consideration. Coincidentally, he was considered the Terps' best player during a Sweet 16 season last spring.

But Trimble didn't listen to the NBA siren's call like center Diamond Stone and forward Robert Carter Jr. They wanted NBA money rather than playing for free in college and left early. Stone became a second-round pick after boosters once predicted top 10 overall and now plays in the NBA Developmental League. Carter went undrafted and is now playing in an Italian pro league.
