For Orioles, Matt Wieters Alternatives Don't Measure Up

With MLB free-agency season still in its early days, it seems the Orioles will be linked with lots of players. That often seems to be the case.

Unlike last year when the Orioles ended the season with five distinct holes and only four positions solidified, this year, there are only three discernible holes: catcher, right field and designated hitter.

The most surprising move was the team's willingness to allow Matt Wieters, arguably the best catcher in franchise history, to walk away without compensation.

A year ago, Wieters surprised the team by accepting its qualifying offer, and plugging one of those five holes.
