Following the Baltimore Ravens 16-10 loss to the Washington Redskins Oct. 9, the team fired offensive coordinator Marc Trestman and replaced him with quarterbacks coach Marty Mornhinweg in an effort to jumpstart the Ravens' sluggish offensive start.
Mornhinweg, 54, has coached football for just more than three decades and has worked in the NFL since 1995. After holding various positions with the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets before arriving to Baltimore in 2015, he earned a reputation as a West Coast offensive play-caller who features a high-flying passing attack that spreads receivers across the field. Former NFL quarterback and current Pittsburgh Steelers analyst for KDKA-TV, Charlie Batch, said he learned Mornhinweg's coaching style in 2001 when he was quarterback for the Lions during Mornhinweg's only stint as head coach.
"He's a great person," Batch said on Glenn Clark Radio Oct.11. "He is one of those guys, offensively, that you love to play for because of his reputation, and you knew he was going to be aggressive with the play calling -- always thinking touchdowns versus check-downs."
