If I said the NCAA were a seriously flawed organization that regularly made terrible decisions regarding athletes, it wouldn't remotely qualify as a "hot take." The response would be something more along the lines of, "Yeah, that's about right."
That's not what I'm saying. Not this time anyway.
You see, I actually understand the reasoning behind the NCAA deciding to rule Baltimore native (and Forest Park graduate) Isaiah Brock ineligible to play basketball at Oakland University, a school just north of Detroit. We're all aware many high-level college football and basketball players are not in college for the academic experience. But a governing body for college athletics cannot be so resigned to this reality. If the NCAA is going to exist, they must at least feign the notion that academics matter. Brock was not a qualifier out of high school, so I get the NCAA's ruling.
