Earlier this week, we looked back at surprising pitchers for 2016, and now we will break down pitchers who disappointed. There's no denying some of the perceived elite arms struggled, letting fantasy owners down. I always preach the season is a marathon, but if a pitcher struggles for half the season, it really doesn't help fantasy owners if they figure things out during the last couple of months.
Pitchers Who Disappointed:
1. Boston Red Sox Starting Pitcher David Price -- The left-hander was drafted as the sixth-overall pitcher, according to FantasyPros.com, and didn't come close to fulfilling that value in 2016. Price struggled mightily to start the season, as his ERA was higher than 5.00 at the end of May. To Price's credit, he turned his season around in August, as he went a stretch of eight starts in which he allowed three earned runs or less. However, the early-season Price has reemerged, as he has allowed at least five earned runs in two of his last three starts. The Red Sox starter has a 4.04 ERA and 1.20 WHIP on the season, which is a disappointment for the investment fantasy owners made.
