Earlier this week, we took a look at hitters who surprised fantasy owners this season. Now we will look at the other side and break down the hitters who let fantasy owners down. (Note: I'm basing this off where the players were drafted according to FantasyPros.com.)
Hitters Who Disappointed:
1. Miami Marlins Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton -- The 26-year-old has scary power, which is why he is consistently drafted high. In 2016, Stanton had an average draft position of seventh overall, but once again he failed to live up to those expectations. The biggest knock on Stanton has been his inability to stay healthy. The outfielder has played 145 games once in the last five seasons, causing his end-of-year numbers to be lower than they should be. Stanton has never had 40 home runs in a season and has only finished with 100 RBIs once. The fantasy landscape falls in love too much with the eye test, and Stanton checks all those boxes. At the end of the day, his numbers are solid, but not top-10 worthy. Stanton once again dealt with injuries in 2016 and went through a slump that cost him the chance to duplicate his career averages. Stanton has a .243 batting average with 27 home runs and 73 RBIs. This is a guy fantasy owners shouldn't even begin to think about until late in the second round next year.
