Jack Harbaugh has never held an official title with the Baltimore Ravens, but the impact of the former longtime college head coach and assistant has been felt much more than the impact of many who have.
The father of Ravens head coach John Harbaugh (and former NFL quarterback/current Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh) has been an inspirational figure for the franchise. During John Harbaugh's first season as coach (2008), Jack Harbaugh used a story about Muhammad Ali -- who died June 3 -- to inspire the "What's Our Name" catchphrase the team rallied behind during its run to the AFC Championship Game.
"The story I tell is the Ernie Terrell story," Jack Harbaugh told Glenn Clark Radio in a June 7 interview. "Back in [1967], I think it was early February when 'What's My Name?' came up. Terrell would not [call him Muhammad Ali, instead using his birth name, Cassius Clay], and the fight was really a brutal fight, where [Ali] earned the respect of Terrell and so many other great boxing fans."
